Free MMORPG: Daimonin

Action, adventure, mystery, quests, and kobolds -- lots and lots of kobolds. In a phrase, that is Daimonin, a free MMORPG; but, don't let the price fool you: this game is fun and addictive.

To be fair, Daimonin isn't World of Warcraft. It's a 2D isometric game, so your range of motion is limited to the 2D plane; but, aside from jumping, everything else that makes an MMORPG so addictive is in the game: hundreds of items, monsters, locations, people, and quests. Most of the features in Daimonin are point and click, but, there are some actions (and quests) that can only be accessed by typing in special commands; for example, in order to converse about a particular subject with an NPC, you need to actually chat with them about the subject. It can be a difficult proposition for first-time Daimonin players, but you get used to it after the first few levels.

The user interface also has some quirks that you may not expect; for example, it's always there. Unlike other MMORPGs, the UI is always there, making the game feel a little crowded and overwhelming (at first). Also, the games audio lacks polish: it's not terrible, but you'll find yourself muting the game in favor of an mp3 or a podcast.

Aside from its UI problems, Daimonin has a very rich gameplay experience. Your avatar can do battle in a variety of different ways, including hand-to-hand, melee, archery, and magic. There are hundreds of different spells and skills for your character to learn and master, as well as rare and exclusive items that can be found to increase your avatars potential.

Oh, and unlike every MMORPG out there, Daimonin has a very strong and supportive community behind it. Whether it be via the forums or in the game itself the players of Daimonin will be more than happy to help and befriend you.

Overall, Daimonin is an excellent game for those of us who want to experience the MMORPG phenomenon, but either don't have the time or money to spend on World of Warcraft. While the user interface could use some more work, the game itself is a feature-rich experience that should not be missed.
